A weak or receding chin can make the rest of a person’s face look out of proportion. The nose may appear larger and the neckline may appear loose. A chin augmentation can correct this defect by giving balance to your facial features.
This procedure is commonly recommended in conjunction with rhinoplasty (nose surgery) in order to achieve a more satisfying facial proportion, since the size of the chin may be affected by the new size and shape of the nose. A chin implant can also greatly enhance the result from facelift surgery or submental liposuction in patients with small or weak chin projection. This is also a popular procedure for men who wish to have a stronger chin and better defined jaw line.
The skill of your surgeon is paramount if you are to achieve the results you want from chin implant surgery. Dr. Petroff has been in practice for more than 25 years and has assisted many patients in choosing the right size and shape of implant to create a balanced, pleasing appearance. Most implants are made of safe silicone, and your implant is customized for you.
The chin implant procedure might be right for you if you feel you have a weak chin and/or prominent nose, as it will help to balance your facial features. To be a good candidate for this procedure, of course, you should be in good overall health with no preexisting medical conditions.

How is a chin augmentation performed?
The chin implant procedure takes less than an hour to perform and can be done under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. During the procedure, an incision is made in a natural crease beneath the chin. A pocket is created, and the implant is then placed and positioned in front of the jawbone.
Once in place, the implant is secured with sutures, and the procedure is completed. You can return home the same day. The scar is in a place that is mostly hidden, and in time, it will fade and flatten.
What is recovery from chin augmentation like?
After the chin implant procedure, you may experience some tightness, soreness, bruising, and swelling in the chin area. Any discomfort can be relieved with pain medication, although most patients report pain subsiding after just a few days. You will be restricted to a soft diet for several days, and sutures are removed after 7 days.
