Your Expectations
Only rarely does plastic surgery require a hospital stay. Almost all of the procedures Drs. Petroff and Maier offer can be performed right in our state-of-the-art, licensed surgical facility at the Petroff Center.
During surgery, patients are given carefully monitored intravenous anesthesia, which induces what is called "twilight sleep." This means that during surgery you will be breathing on you own. The benefits of "twilight sleep" anesthesia are that patients rarely remember anything about surgery and are up and around much more quickly. For most breast and body contouring procedures, general anesthesia is used. Recovery time depends on the type of procedure, but is usually from one to two weeks. All patients can return home or go to a care facility the same day of their surgery.
Scarring is the natural result of any surgery. However incisions made during plastic surgery procedures are carefully placed and for the most part are well hidden. Following surgery, some discomfort can be expected, but our patients report that it is usually much less than expected. Depending on the procedure, you will be given adequate medication to keep you as pain-free as possible.
Postoperative visits are scheduled regularly throughout the year following your surgery. Patients may also schedule follow-up office visits as often as they like. Postoperative visits are free of charge.
Though plastic surgery is proven safe, surgery of any kind involves risk. It would be unethical to tell patients that there is no risk- there are always uncertainties associated with any kind of surgery. Furthermore, it is not possible to guarantee the result of any cosmetic surgery. As a result, patients should carefully consider all factors before going ahead.
